Taking shape .... and a "Sweet" Birthday!

Week #2 - Tuesday
Kids go IN to school..... shoes stay OUT
 One of the classrooms
 Outdoor class with a VIEW
Looked down at this clump of grass and realized that it was braided
like someones hair . . . not sure how that caught my eye
Evil pigeons here . . . that have red feathers just around their eyes . . .
Walking down to the field in the morning
 Cabbage growing
A harvest of onions.. laying out to dry
 Yes, the stars are pink!
Sugar cane with mountains in the distance
Our starting point this morning after taking all the stabilizing boards off
Job supervisor - celebrating her 'Sweet 16' today..
HAPPY B-DAY, LIZ!!

More digging

  School's out...
Around here . . . somebody is always watching your every move

Poles for monkey bars were too long so we had to shorten . . .
believe it or not but the extension cord runs from here all the way back up to the house
A few poles in . . . going to put in the cross beams
and see if the poles for the monkey bars are in at the right height
 First one in place

A final look back before heading up to lunch
A view from our balcony down to the field
Looks so small from up here
In Kenya electrical plugs for power tools seem to be optional . . .
this was the end of the cable from our circular saw
just stuck into the outlet on our 50 meter extension cord
Making their own security bars
The last two poles for the main structure
A rather uncomfortable rest....

Surfing the internet down at the lower field . . .
trying to find out how wide the volleyball poles were to be . . .
 Tires are quite versatile
They are cooking in their "kitchen"

End of day three . . . starting to take shape

Lots of figuring going on....

Week #2 - Day #2
The morning started with Emmanuel learning a little math on Liz's iPad.
Notching the tops of a few poles to hold the cross beams for the monkey bars.
This guy was pretty good free-handing his cuts with the circular saw.
 Today's work.
Duncan got a couple girls to help him carry poles down to the field....
they giggled the whole time!

Parakeets always buzzing the work site - freaky eyes!
(seriously... those are REAL birds)
Taking down the support poles from yesterday.

... and more measuring.
Bret can handle the 10' poles... but says the 15' ones are a bit much!

What a view from the field where the playground is being built!

In America we pile up leaves to let the kids jump in... in Africa...
they use dry grass.
(Makes me itch just thinking about it!)
A pile of grass and a pile of old tires.... African Toys.
Duncan and Bret checking the alignment of the poles
before they cement them in.

 Kickball with the kids.

Emmanuel - pitching!
You can see Nash in the middle with his Hawaiian 'work shirt' and boots!

Just 'hanging out' watching all the construction going on....
End of Day #2 - six more poles in the ground.

"God's gifts of grace come in many forms. Each of you has received a gift
in order to serve others. You should use it faithfully.  If you speak,
you should do it like one speaking God's very words. If you serve,
you should do it with the strength God provides.
Then in all things God will be praised through Jesus Christ."
